Yes, but that is not your problem right? the problem you're seeing is that children aren't being respawned when they should be. That's how I understood it.
I think then that the parent should watch that, and respawn children automatically when they grow a lot.
"grow a lot" is, as Anton likes to point out, context-sensitive.
