I just downloaded and installed OpenOffice.org638C without as much as a hic-up! No errors at all! All of the applications run smoothly so far. This is the package i downloaded: install638C_linux_intel.tar.gz from here: http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/build_638c/build638c.html

All right, after a new dl, it worked to install it. As far as I can see, it was only the setup which should have been renamed to setup.ins (?!?!) I installed it to /opt/openoffice, to make sure that every user can run it. This works as well, but you cannot save settings, since OO tries to do this in the opt directory - neither does a user have write access to this directory nor does it make sense. Please don't tell me that the only way to make it work is installing it in every single home directory consuming 240 MB each. That's the way I had it with StarOffice, and I would rather leave this way [if this is possible :-) ] Btw, I already tried to install OO to /home/wolfi/openoffice, and the installer told me that OO is already installed in /opt/openoffice, so I think there should be a way to save individual settings in §HOME and the program files in /opt. At least I hope so :-) Cheers ... Wolfi ================================== mailto:wolfi_z@yahoo.com _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
