What should I write to get, say, gnome?
gdm
You mean write exec gdm to ~/.xinitrc ? It does not work. Please remember that I'm asking what to write in that file so that "startx" starts gnome - your answer is what is written in: /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager:DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm" and is used in runlevel 5 - what is not what we are talking here. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E.
