Hello Nash,
As far as I can see, you should change the start part in /etc/init.d/smb:
will become...
Assuming of course that your smb.conf file is in /etc.
changed and itis
Oh, you should also check if /usr/sbin/smbd and /usr/sbin/nmbd are in fact the right binaries (2.0.9).
they are It didn't solve it (same results, cf. 'ps ax', executed from within smb : 223 ? S 0:00 /bin/sh /etc/init.d/rc3.d/S01smb start 231 ? R 0:00 /usr/sbin/smbd -D -s /etc/smb.conf 233 ? R 0:00 /bin/sh /etc/init.d/rc3.d/S01smb start -> somehow I'm missing the line with nmdb here *BUT* I've played a bit with those ideas, and I seem to have found a solution (or at least : a workaround) -> I have renamed /etc/init.d/rc3.d/S01smb to S05.smb ( OK - it think that is a bit fishy, and I'm might regret it when later upgrading the system ) I'm not yet sure what caused it, but Suse (don't know about others) starts the network in S05.network. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I have 2 network cards, with my local network being eth1. (I tried S02, S03 aso, and for as far as I can see, the network interfaces must be up before starting samba.) Anyway, thank you very much for your aid in this. Regards Marcel
