Actually, it is the other way round. The journal of six days takes 300MB, more than the same size as syslog for years, which is also compressed. Telcontar:~ # du -hcsS /var/log 274M /var/log 1.2G total Telcontar:~ # There are two big directories, holding bugzilla files and old logs, that fill up the rest of that 1.2G.
