[opensuse] How to get to "init 1" now?

With grub it was a simple matter of typing in "init 1" at the grub menu when booting the computer and one was taken to level 1 of the system. Now with this "progression" (!?) to grub2 this is longer can be done. I need to get to level 1 to be able to run e2fsck to check the file system (ext4). How does one now get to level 1 without "/" partition being inactive? Anyone know, please?
