I've build new xntp package for SuSE 9.0 (I think you can upgrade from SuSE Official package without problems, I can configure it with YAst2). It is version 4.2.0a (from 20040225 CVS snapshot). ¿could you check whether is still that error?. I used most of the SuSE scripts and spec files.
You're aware that the official 4.2.0 doesn't support running in a chroot environment?
Yes, but I applied a patch from Timo Felbinger which permit that. And on the 4.2.0a (20040225) is fully supported. Try and see, I only had to change the options, they are different that the 4.1.1 SuSE official to support chroot and nonroot user.
