Don't worry -- Linux will still find it as it has its own routines. 2) Pass the correct C/H/S values of the hard disk at boot-time. LILO boot:- linux hdb=7473/255/63 (Substitute your correct values to suit) As long as the kernel is set up to use "Direct" or "Any" means of accessing the IDE bus (Most stock kernels are) then hopefully you will be able to use the whole hard disk. 3) Cast around for a Motherboard BIOS update which may remove the 8G BIOS limit. I purchased a Maxtor 40 gig Ultra-DMA 66 drive for on my older system. The biso shows it as a 8 gig drive. I have read the newer kernel will read the drive correctly, and I also found a patch. However, I don't know how to patch a kernel or compile and install a new one.
Is there a compiled kernel out there I can download to replace the kernel in my SuSE 6.3 system that will allow it to use the entire 40 gig drive?
If there is an easier way, please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
