That is a sign that your BIOS doesn't support this mode. Still i915resolution should patch the bios to make this work, but chances are that it doesn't work with your specific bios.
I guess it's Intel 845G with Intel Extreme Graphics... But after I gave 8MB Memory for the Video in the BIOS it now starts in graphics mode...
If you still have problems:
You can try the i810beta driver (exchange i810 by i810beta in the Device
Section of /etc/X11/xorg.conf. If you don't have that file, or the
Device section doesn't use i810, call "sax2 -r -a" first.
