I have a GEForce 8400 GS gpu with the proprietary NVIDIA drivers installed. When I attempt to enable Desktop Effects in GNOME, a message inducates the configuration is not supported. Canceling the operation, the CPU and thermal meters in gkrellm jump (60-70% CPU, 60C), but top doesn't show anything unusual other than the gconf daemon using 10-11% CPU. Killing gconfd doesn't stop the rogue process. The only thing that will do this is logging out of the current session. Another thing, from time to time NVIDIA is reverting to a lower res logging into a new session. The highest res available is 1024x768. Usually the range is up to 1280x1024. Again, logging out and logging back in restores the normal settings. Direct rendering is enabled, modprobe doesn't return any errors. I'm wondering if I have a bad card, Is there anything else to check in the config before shopping for a new one? jc -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
