Well, the FAQ is abundantly clear on the subject. It explains the complete rationale.
Dear Scott,
Please reply to the list, that's what it is for, not to me directly.
Please show me where. I've re-read the FAQ again. I see nothing w/r/t any analysis in comparison to Fedora or Debian lists.
And why, pray tell, should SuSE or anyone else feel the need to provide you with an analysis comparing the Fedora or Debian lists to SuSE's list? Your very question is arrogrant. You do understand that list admins get to run their lists however they choose right?
As to comparisions with Fedora or Debian mail lists, that's apples and oranges given that they all have different list administrators and the list administrator gets to make these kinds of decisions.
And on each list, the decision seems to have popular support. What is different about each community? I think it's more than just the arbitrary decisions of a list manager. I suspect it's related to the European bent of the SUSE list membership, but I think that's too simplistic.
I think you are jumping to a wrong conclusion assuming that list decisions are/were made by popular support. While it is certainly likely that SuSE took the opinions of subscribers into account when it made its decisions on how to manage this list, I seriously doubt they put it to a vote. I also think you are reaching to characterize the list admin's decisions as 'arbitary'. The FAQs make it clear that some thought was put behind the decisions that the list admin made regarding this and the other listed subjects.
I think the reason why people here seem to have trouble answering the question is that it's more sociological in nature. Yes, a bit OT, but who better to understand the differences between Linux users than Linux users?
I don't see where anyone here has any trouble at all answering your question, the trouble seems to be on your end. You simply don't like the answers so you keep harping on the issue. It's real simple, this subject has been visited many many times in the past, the OWNER of the list has made a descision regarding this issue and thats that. Don't like the decision, then go start your own list. Scott
Thanks, Mike
