[opensuse] Performance,

I'm not totally happy with my openSUSE 10.3 performance. It's not too fast (the same was with Ubuntu and Fedora). I think that are two ways: the first it's related to Gnome (probably high to my PC - P4, 512mb ram, 64mb video memory (dedicated), 60gb HD - or a kernel problem. Could you advice me please?
