i can't get YAST to load a NIC driver during install. the onboard nic is an Intel 1gb which i think should use the e1000 driver? anyone else seen this problem?
I've had a problem with this driver on a desktop. I got the source form Intel's website, compiled it and that one worked. Install without the NIC being set up, go to the intel website and download the source, compile the driver and replace the stock driver with the one you compiled (after making a backup of it, of course). This might help.

Thanks for your advise, i guess i'll have to install another nic temporarily, since the dell doesn't have a dvd drive and i must install via the network.....probably easier/faster than creating a special boot floppy.
