Since a few days, I've the very same problem. It's time comsuming and frustrating. (Especially when uploading images for WordPress pages with Google Chrome. Horrible!)
However, I don't suspect Nautilus, as I don't have it on my box. :)
Till now I can't find a solution. Because you mentioned Brave, I installed that browser too. Now I have:
Firefox -> Dolphin Opera -> Dolphin Vivaldi -> Dolphin Chromium -> Dolphin
Google Chrome: ? (horrible) Brave: ? (horrible) M$ Edge: ? (horrible)
So how do you set Chrome so that it opens up the Dolphin file manager when you want to save a file from the internet?
Maybe the change of the file manager in use, is related to the 'rendering engine'. Let's hope w'll find out!
Yes, I can't figure it out. My default file manager is Dolphin in my default applications, and I don't have gnome installed, so I don't have any gnome file manager installed. Somewhere there is something telling chrome to use a gtk based file manager instead of Dolphin as the instance to save a download, but in looking through all the different configuration files and searching high and low on the internet, I am out of options. So I guess I will just have to live with it. -- George Box: 15.2 | Plasma 5 | AMD Phenom IIX4 | 64 | 32GB Laptop #1: 15.2 | Plasma 5 | AMD FX 7TH GEN | 64 | 32GB Laptop #2: TW | Plasma 5 | Core i7 | 64 | 16GB
