My Keyboard has disappeared and I can not type anything

Hello, I hope that someone might be able to assist me. My keyboard has disappeared and I am unable to login or do anything. I had just completed updating KDE2 to KDE2.0.1, or I thought that I had done it correctly, when I rebooted my machine and when it came up again the keyboard would not work at all. The mouse is fine and during the bootup I notice that it has loaded my keyboard mapping. I have tried switching keyboards with one that I know works fine and it did not type either.
