Hm. I was part of a quite large installation at a university slightly after the millennium. Dell actually donated around 50 (I think) servers for the project. It was all Linux.

Well I do not think we need much support simply recognition from the OEM companies. I do have 11.4 on an older Gen 4 Dell Desktop the one with the color changing front pannel and now 15.2 on Dell N5110. Its the ACER E5-575 which is giving me problems. This list is our support and does a good job.
