I lost my notes on how to make XMMS run as other than root for 7.3 personal. In trying to use it a window opens and them immediately closes. If I play sounds in the KDE player everything works from CD or on the HD (MP3 and OGG included). file:/etc/opt/gnome/SuSE/Multimedia/Sound/xmms.desktop file:/etc/opt/kde2/share/applnk/SuSE/Multimedia/Sound/xmms.desktop file:/etc/opt/kde2/share/applnk/work/xmms.desktop file:/etc/X11/susewm/AddEntrys/KDE2_WORK/xmms.desktop file:/etc/X11/susewm/AddEntrys/KDE_WORK/xmms.desktop file:/etc/X11/susewm/AddEntrys/SuSE/Multimedia/Sound/xmms.-636.desktop file:/etc/X11/susewm/AddEntrys/SuSE/Multimedia/Sound/xmms.desktop all have rw-r--r-- permissions with owner being root and group being root. To make xmms available for the user should the group be set to users? Its interesting that though none of the execute bits is set it works in root but not in user.
