From Unofficial SuSE FAQ:
1. What does "SuSE" mean, and how do you pronounce it?
SuSE, pronounced soo'-suh, comes from the German acronym, "Software und Systementwicklung (Software and System Development).
Its also, with a little mispronunciation, "susse", which is German for sweet.
Actually not. The word I think you are talking about is 'süß' or 'süss', which can in some situations get an 'e' at the end. (Notice the 2 dots above the u.) This makes quite a large mispronunciation, because those 2 dots might be small and hard to notice on paper (or monitor), but they change the sound very noticably. On a sidenote: Once in a US movie, a gang of skinheads who were supposed to be German sang "Deutschland uber alles". I laughed through the rest of the movie. Moving further sideways: I was just reminded of the Finnish hacker in Swordfish, Axel Torvalds (the name and nationality seems somehow familiar :-) who supposedly only spoke Finnish, but somehow managed to discuss with his legal counsel in fluent German.
