Hi Literally all I did was add that line IN to my /etc/modules.conf. However, it's unlikely to be the same problem for you. As I understand it there are three layers of software involved in using the parallel port. The bottom layer will depend on exactly what hardware you have on the parallel port. However there is a good explanation of what is going on in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/drivers/ ... (at least that's where I think it is, I'm typing this under windows coz I'm at work, and I haven't yet got my work machine quite working properly under linux). It should tell you which driver you need, and then you should alias that in your modules.conf (as I did with epat which works for my imation ls120). Hope that helps. I've got the same error when i try to setup KOnCd. Did you delete that line from modules.conf? TIA, B.N.Lawrence@rl.ac.uk : ... oh how simple it all turned out to be: a simple: alias paride_protocol epat in my /etc/modules.conf ... bit by bit I learn new things ... I am running suse linux 8.1. The printer works fine. As I understand it, the magic incantation to get the ls120 to work is mount -t vfat /dev/pf0 /media/ls120 However, this fails with: mount: /dev/pf0 is not a valid block device And what I see in /var/log/messages is: Dec 21 22:41:58 linux kernel: paride: version 1.06 installed (parport) Dec 21 22:41:58 linux kernel: pf: pf version 1.04, major 47, cluster 64, nice 0 Dec 21 22:41:58 linux modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module paride_protocol Dec 21 22:41:58 linux kernel: pf0: Autoprobe failed Dec 21 22:41:58 linux kernel: pf: No ATAPI disk detected Dec 21 22:41:58 linux insmod: /lib/modules/2.4.19-4GB/kernel/drivers/block/paride/pf.o: init_module: Operation not permitted Anyone got any clues? I can't find anything useful about the missing module, apart from the obvious fact that it isn't anywhere on my system.
