I'm trying to install 12.1 on a HP 8560w laptop. I have downloaded the 12.1 64bit net install and burned it on a DVD. I have verified the download and checked the media. To be able to verify the media and to install I have to run in text mode.
That's rather extreme. How did you decide that?
First I change network config to DHCP and then I start the installation. I see kernel loading and then I get the green screen with opensuse in the lower right corner and then noting ever happens. I have waited up to 8hours. In text mode when I have chosen installation I see a lot of text first. Then I get Sending DHCP request to eth. This times out after maybe 30 seconds after which I get to choose WLAN authentication and then everything continues as it should. I get the feeling that it never times out waiting for DHCP for eth0 in graphics mode.
The installations hangs on installing kernel-desktop.
Did you try other installation options, such as failsafe & nomodeset?
Any suggestions on what to do next?
If all else fails, clone your 11.4 / installation to another partition, correct volume label, menu.lst, grub.conf and fstab (& if necessary device.map) for the new location, then update /etc/zypp/repos.d/ to 12.1 and do 'zypper dup'.
I have done exactly the same thing with 11.4 without any problems. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation)
