If your NVidia GPU is more than two decades old, possibly there might be hope to make it functional if kernel modesetting is disabled. Even if it managed to load, the possibility it won't subsequently unload is near zilch. Note the names contained in the description: # zypper info xf86-video-nv ... Information for package xf86-video-nv: ... Summary : NVIDIA video driver for the Xorg X server Description : nv is an Xorg driver for NVIDIA video cards. The driver supports 2D acceleration and provides support for the following framebuffer depths: 8, 15, 16 (except Riva128) and 24. All visual types are supported for depth 8, TrueColor and DirectColor visuals are supported for the other depths with the exception of the Riva128 which only supports TrueColor in the higher depths. Xorg tries to load every display driver conceptually possible to use with an available GPU. It determines which that succeeded to load has highest priority, keeps it loaded, and unloads the rest. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science.
