I am really sorry to argue, but that's what we can read at the chapter "How
can I assign two IP's to one network card?", and I quote:
"YaST2 can not do it at the time being /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcg.template
explains:"
Another (useful) hints?

Try the Unofficial SuSE FAQ at

Under Networking there is info on getting virtual NIC interfaces setup. I can't tell if you want virtual interfaces or if you got them configured and now want to get rid of them... YaST can set them up and get rid of them for you.

To: Sent: Monday, March 17, 2003 12:06 PM Subject: [SLE] Lots of not-wireless aliases Hi there!!!
I have a router with multiple phisical interfaces and multiple virtual aliases per interface, and I have the following problem:
eth1 IP/Netmask: 211.x.y.z / 255.255.255.0 done eth1:1 ifup-wireless: interface eth1:1 is not available IP/Netmask: 10.x.y.z / 255.255.255.0 done eth1:2 ifup-wireless: interface eth1:2 is not available IP/Netmask: 212.x.y.z / 255.255.255.0 done
The interface is OK, but how can I get rid of this annoying messages
(think
about 20 virtual interfaces... pretty lame, isn't it?) So... this messages occur only on virtual interfaces (eth1:0, eth1:1,
eth1:2
and so on...)
Is there any possibility to declare this virtual interfaces from Yast?!??! Because I've edited all the files by hand (ifcfg-eth1:0, ifcfg-eth1:1, ifcfg-eth1:2 and so on)
SuSE 8.1 on a PIII desktop machine no wireless package no pcmcia package
Thank you for any hint. Radu
