Let's get down to the basics :-) . What is the brand of the drive? Every manufacturer has on its site software which will check out/format/configure a new drive. Go to the manufacturer's site and download that software, put it on a floppy if need be, and test out the new HD. Then come back and us "gurus" here will decide what you should do with your new HD :-) .
