I am using the ressource provided by the package "akonadi-googledata" to access my google contacts and calendar. At least, it did not crash my desktop. However, there might be problems with the proxy defined in the KDE system settings. For some people, including me, it helped to change the KDE proxy setting to "direct connection to the internet" (translated from German).
Except not everything, as I assumed. From that point on, Kmail2 stopped synchronizing one of my imap accounts. I have 3 imap accounts - 2 with gmail and 1 with yahoo. The imap account with gmail that I have set as my default account has not synchronized any email since last thursday. It also will not send.
Did you try to reconfigure the google IMAP ressource? Perhaps your password was deleted when you deleted google ical ressource? For me akonadiconsole was a very helpful tool when I tried(sic!) to migrate from kmail1 to kmail2. You can enable the debugger (do not forget to disable it later) and see what akondi does and when akonadi fails to do something.
It says it sends the email by the indicator in the lower right corner, but it actually does not, because when I test send an email from that account to one of my other accounts, I never receive the email. [...]
Please check that your Mail Dispatcher Agent is still online. Sometimes it simply goes offline (after crash/suspend to disk/whatever...) and you cannot really send any mail.
