have you tried with alsamixer? make sure that the "Capture" settings are > reasonable...
Hi Martin: I checked again the settings in alsamixer more carefully and realized that an option called IEC958 (I have no idea what this is) were turned on alongside the microphone. This option is hidden in KMix and KAmix. If this IEC958 is turned on, it blocks capturing from the microphone. It is also interesting that this IEC958 is the only channel that can be turned on while another channel is on. All the other channels are exclusive, ie turning on one of them disables the other one (except this 958). The point is that the problem has been solved. Thanks!
