Yes it is. Until you don't have to scroll in the list it is the most effective. But this applies to Applications Lanucher Style mode and I discussed Classic Menu Style mode.
The height of the "menu" is configurable. OK, not indefinitely so, but I've added more to my 'favourites' and rather than scroll I've increased the height so that they are all visible. Have you tried the 'Lancelot laucher'? Looks quite different. It has a 'usage statistics' option...
