On most lists when you read a posted message then hit "reply" the To: field is automatically filled in with the "list-post" address, i.e. it will be sent to the list. However whatever mailing list manager SuSE uses here fills in the reply-to address of the person who's post you're reading (as I'm sure you're all well aware of).
I find this really annoying, and several times have accidently sent things to a person instead of to the list.
Is there anyway y'all @ SuSE would please consider fixing that? I consider it a bug, not a feature :-)
This discussion comes up every few months. Perhaps it should be included in an FAQ :-) Whether or not lists should have an Reply-To-header seems to me a kind of religious thing. Some people could start a war about it (if they could afford it). We have chosen not to create a reply-to-header. The mailing list is already crowded enough. We think it is better to require some thought before sending off a message to thousands to people and possibly annoying them. This way, only one could get annoyed with our decision--the author of the email. If we changed it, thousands could get annoyed about messages sent to the list accidently. There are more reasons on the web, just search for the phrase "Reply-To considered harmful". I won't comment on this topic further, since I'm tired of these threads :-O sorry, Jonathan, you probably haven't seen them, and I don't intend to offend you. Of course, if a significant number of people on this list want it changed, we can make a formal voting.
