Hi all,
I just installed SuSE 8.2 on a Pent. 4, 1.4 Ghz machine and all is going well except there's no sound. I have an Intel 82801 BA-ICH2 sound card built in to the motherboard. Can anyone out there with one of these cards share with me how they got this to work? Thanks a lot in advance!
Anthony, I'm not at home so that I can verify, but I'm pretty sure that I have the same card. Anyhow, the quirks that I noticed when I set it up were that some of the output channels were muted and that the actual volume control to adjust the sound was the headphones channel. If you start alsamixer in a terminal window, you should be able to adjust the volumes properly. You use the left/right arrow keys to change channels and the up/down keys to adjust the volume. The M key will mute/unmute a channel which is indicated with a "MM' in the mixer display. You can also try some of the other mixers available, but I had the best luck just using alsamixer.
