Hi list,
I'm running a vsftpd server on my gateway machine (Leap 42.3). I try to set it up so someone can upload things there.
This works fine, however I only get 1MB/s upload speed :(
So I tried the upload from a different host - came in at 11MB/s :D
The issue is clearly on the sending side, or rather somewhere inbetween, and not in the vsftpd configuration...
11 MB/S seems to point at a 100 Mb/S ethernet.
Yes, that's my connection at home, a 100Mbit fiber.
Were you downloading from home, or uploading? Because at home you might not have symmetric upload speed. I did not, initially.
I assume you are on a LAN, Internet is not in the picture?
No, this is internet. That was from our university server to my home, so almost local (all within Stockholm).
The first 'slow' test had been from the Canary Islands, and my suspicion is that the local network admins of the observatory there have some filter rules to limit 'deprecated' ftp connections..... Will have to ask them I guess ;^>
Ah, so you were downloading. And being science internet I don't suppose they'd have assymetric connections.
(Semi-OT: I do transfer our obserational data from La Palma to Stockholm via Internet. Speed is only limited by the 1Gbit network card..... This is Science-Internet, though = GEANT2)
