Hi Marcel,
chkconfig -list indicates the cups service should run at level 3 and 5 ie. cups 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:off 5:on
ps -e | grep cuspd gives the following: 542 ? 00:00:01 cupsd
I understand what the first one means (though I'm not sure why it goes "on" twice) but the second one means nothing to me.

- To understand the "why it goes on twice", check the SuSE manual (or google) and look for an explanation on runlevels. Trust me, you need this knowledge ;-) - "ps" is a Proces Status report tool. "man ps" should give you an idea what you can do with it, and while you're at it: "man grep" can tell you more about the grep command. Really, these are very basic *nix commands everyone should know about, or at least know where to find the explanation for it, so i am not going to explain them any further here. "man" is your friend :-) What the seconds line does is this: "grep" looks for lines that contain "cupsd" in the output of "ps -e" and prints it to the screen. To come back to your original question: yes, cups is running on your machine, so you should be able to configure a printer through Yast2 too. Someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i think you can do the same things with the Yast2 interface for Cups. Then again, i agree that it is strange you can't browse to the web interface, localhost:631. Hope this gets you going again. Marcel
