Yes. Even though the unit files were in place, it required a reboot for the mounts to happen.
That is weird - hmm, I can't make that work now either. I must have dreamt it. Just now, to get it to work without reboot, I did:
systemctl start <automount-unit> e.g.
systemctl start tmp-anton.automount
