updatedb, how do I make it work

Hi, I found that I can't make updadedb to work. I went to Yast2/Security and chose root in the updatedb window, but still no go. I also could not find either updatedb or locate anywhere in the system ... Can anyone help me with that. How do I make it work? BTW, I have suse 8.0 professional. Thanks, Wojtek
