Abit VH6-II problems

Just curious if someone knows if SuSE requires any special BIOS setting on a ABIT VH6-II ... I have been experiencing what I would call unstable behavior from the MB with both Red Hat 7.3 and SuSe 8.0... After I finally figured out that to make it boot once, I need to disable on-board sound and on-board USB. The processor is a not-over-clocked Pentium III 1000 MHz. I have tried different sticks of RAM but the freezing behavior does not go away. So I am thinking I am missing something in the BIOS... thanks! J PS: the behavior I get is after a complete boot off an installation CD media, the OS freezes during benign activity like clicking the "next" panel or selecting packages, or just moving the mouse etc. --
