I installed Suse Linux 5.2 about 2 weeks ago, as this is my first try at Linux please excuse ignorance on my part, I've read and re-read the f***** manual. The problem is that I am able establish a connection to my ISP ( I've used both a chat script and kpp) but I can't do anything, (e.g. ping). Ifconfig shows that I have a PPP connection running, I check In var/log/messages and don't see any glaring error messages, I think that the problem might be in the resolv.conf file as my ISP uses dynamic I.P. numbers I've set the nameserver at 0.0.0.0 I don't know if this is correct and my ISP is no help at all.

I just experienced this myself. I could establish a ppp conection but couldn't move any packets. The messages to the console said "IPX protocol not supported by this kernel". The problem went away when I set a system name and domain in YAST. I had not specified one previously because my box is a 'stand-alone'. Well, as soon as I gave my box a name (jedi)and a bogus domain (hoth.sys)suddenly I the problem went away. Good luck. -- ------------------------------------------------------- Ben Messinger bmessin@3-cities.com Use Linux. ------------------------------------------------------- -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
