Problem with kmail

Often when using kmail, usually while writing an email message, my connection to my ISP dies. I restart the connection but when I try to send or receive messages it fails and I get a connection error message. I have to close and re-open kmail to restore functionality. Is there a way around this? It's kind of annoying. Thanks Eddie
