I have a Sound Blaster 24 Live! board on a older Dell machine. It works in Windoze and Kubuntu, but not in openSUSE 10.2 or 10.3 alpha 6. It used to work on older SuSE releases.
In 10.2 YAST says it's there and configured. KMix comes up with a little red x on the icon and the mixer window shows nothing.
In 10.3 alpha 6, YAST says it's there and configured. KMix comes up normally and the mixer window shows all the sliders. Still no sound. lsmod shows that the ca0106 module is loaded.
I've been trying to figure out how kubuntu and suse configure the sound system, but no luck so far.
Any help would be appreciated. Try running alsaconf

And it wrote the config and then played a sound for you?

It tried, but no sound. Clayton wrote:
I wonder.. have you bumped into the problem/bug with hal-resmgr that pops up from time to time where $USER doesn't get ACL rights to the sound card?
Try this as an experiment... add the Audio group to your userid and see if you have sound. If nothing changes, then reverse the group change. If you have sound after this.... then you have found the problem which is probably related to this bug report... https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=267232

I tried the steps in that bug, with no sound. Inclusion in the audio group does have an effect, it turns off the little red x on the KMix icon. This bug report https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=227420 seems to be the problem. The 10.3 alpha 6 kernel has been updated to 2.6.22 and it's still not fixed. -- Bob -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
