However, after a while, changing channels, it locked up. Totally. No mouse, keyboard, anything. Even Ctrl-Alt-Del didn't work. I had to use the hard reset button to recover. After rebooting and fscking, I tried again. This time, it locked up almost immediately, before I'd even OK-ed the dialog box that pops up when starting xawtv.
So, where do I start debugging this? The moment the problem manifests itself, I lose all control over the machine.
I have had similar problems. Go to http://bytesex.org/bttv/ and get the latest 0.7.x tarball. You will need kernel sources (I'm using 2.4.5-SuSE right now) and there is a script in the BTTV distribution that will automagically create a patch for the kernel that you can apply (I was totally impressed with that script, if only it was more common). I highly recommend upgrading Xawtv as well. I create a new RPM for that one (edit spec file, rpm -ba...). Both of those tarballs are updated *very* often so if you find a bug or something, there's probably a new version by the time you find it. - -- James Oakley Engineering - SolutionInc Ltd. joakley@solutioninc.com http://www.solutioninc.com -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.5 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE7enGA+FOexA3koIgRAiC9AJ9mLDhbabfZK8zynvsIDC9CnADF7wCfUTtL gL6buR5OJ3h3c8EquJ2tWuE= =nA/i -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
