Just installed Xfree4.0 from the SuSE site, downloaded the GLX and Kernel modules from NVIDIA. WOW!!!!! Just a couple of problems though. Now when I log in (RUN LEVEL-3) as root I no longer have kde I'm in something I've never seen before. What is this for and how can I get kde back? Also if I do any package changes which causes yast to run SuSEconfig, It messes up the install of the NVIDIA GLX driver. Quake3 demo can no longer load libGL.so. Basically every time this happens I have to reinstall the NVIDIA rpms to get quake to run. This doesn't bother me too much as I'm only using quake 3 to test the NVidia 3d stuff. The change to the root login is a killer though. Any one know what I need to do to get KDE back for root?
When kdm comes up and gives you the opportunity to select the user and log in, it should also give you a dropdown list box for the window manager you want to use. Select KDE from this menu and that will hopefully fix it (assuming this is your problem).
Oh yea is SuSE gonna package the NVIDIA/Xfree4.0 stuff for us any time soon????
XFree4.0 is already available for download via RPM, but I'm not sure about NVidia drivers.
