Why are you trying to use Compiz with KDE4 rather than KDE's own window manager (kwin)?
That goes without saying. The kde4 desktop effect pale in comparison to the fluid elegance of compiz. The timings, accelerations, decelerations, and kinematic properties of the desktop effects are really just hacks by comparison. Compiz WM has many more times the experience (and code) in the effects that does kde4 -- which was nothing more than "I want to be compiz too."
Granted, DE's are getting better, but there is still no comparison. That is before you get to the issue of useful plugins....
I've used both, incl Compiz on (early) KDE4. This category is near the top in terms of subjectivity. I confess to have been initially enthralled, but after a while I throttled way back to the compositing features that really contribute to productivity so I can use either. But my preference is the tighter integration of Kwin. On the other hand, the wife demanded I disable compositing altogether.
