Hi everyone
I recently bought myself a new machine, and installed 10.1, with KDE. Everything seems okay - thus far. I transferred my "old" hard drive to my new machine, (as a second drive), with all my data on it. I succesfully re-created my account, and pointed it to my "old" home folder. I want however this data tranfered to a new home folder, on the new hard drive, in order for me to clean up the old drive. I succesfully "moved" the other user's on the machine home directories, but when I move mine, I get all sorts of errors.
Should all programs (wine, nero, etc...) be re-installed before I try to "move" my data. Currently, when i copy the data to my home folder, after I created the account with a "empty" home folder, it will not allow me to log in, as it tells me my profile is screwed up.
Is there perhaps another way in "moving" you home folder?
I have often reinstalled over an existing home folder or copied it over. Never a problem. Try deleting the user, copy the data and then recreate the user. Make sure the user ID number is the same.
