Hello Daniel, this clarifies a lot and really helps ... but in this case they should have moved kdmrc away entirely IMHO. Why keep a config file that is not sourced any more, leading people in the totally wrong direction, make them wonder why nothing happens in case they modify it ..... No, I need not understand all and everything. Thanks! Dieter Am Mittwoch, 1. April 2020, 09:00:43 CEST schrieb Daniel Spannbauer:

Hello Daniel, I tried to edit /usr/share/kde4/config/kdm/kdmrc, but found meanwhile that suse keeps for unclear reasons /var/adm/kdm/kdmrc.sysconfig - which is sourced, too and seems to override some of the settings in /usr/share/kde4/ config/kdm/kdmrc
It has been recommended in the net that one should replace the file in /var/ adm by a link to /dev/null ... Will test soon and report my findings. Thank you for coming back, take care
The kdmrc is auto-generated to get the settings form /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager into the config.
/usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/read_sysconfig.sh does this. It generates /var/adm/kdm/kdmrc.sysconfig, which is read by kdm.
I don't think that the /usr/share/kde4/config/kdm/kdmrc is read be kdm anymore.
For me I've created a own version of read_sysconf. But you have to make sure that you always have a backup of it cause an update will overwrite it.
Regards
Daniel
