Hello,
we have some strange issues on OpenSuSE 12.2 and postscript printers. On cups (v. 1.5.3) we installed "HP LaserJet 2430 Postscript (recommended)", either via direct socket or lpd. The test printing from cups works fine, also from firefox and okular, for example. But kwrite, libreoffice and gimp (maybe also others) fails. When I change the printer to the hpcups driver everything works fine, but the trays do have ugly names, etc.
Do you have an idea what this might be?
Best regards,

Hi Johannes, I can only offer information for LibreOffice where some printers ( esp. Brother) does not by default use postscript. There was a somewhat lengthy discussion on the LO mail list with the final analysis being that one has to first print to a file with postscript format and then print that file. Seems as how LibreOffice prints to pdf format by default and must be forced to print to ps format. You might test what formats are actually being used on your system and try forcing it to print to a ps file and then print that. Also, have you contacted HP to inquire about their linux drivers?
