You must hang out in strange circles then.... Of the 6 burners I have in the house, 5 are single layer only. I think it was only a year or two ago that you couldn't *find* a DL burner.
Finding SL *readers* however is a lot tougher job.
same here! we have have all but one single burners... the double stuff cost too much for it to be advantageous.
Say what? I just got an AOpen DL burner (+ format only, alas) last year for less than $70 Canadian, which a friend picked up for me in Seattle. That price included all taxes, etc bringing it across the border. Now I can get a DL burner (both formats) from several manufacturers, out of Vancouver BC, for much less than that. All the AOpen, LG, LiteOn, Samsung and Sony drives are under $50Cdn, except for the external drives. Local prices are always higher here, since it is a very small city, but still under $70 for all of these.
sorry- may bad I meant the media is cost too much, not the drives. All our drives are singles but one, and last time I priced the media it was way more than singles. Even when I bought the double burner I didn't care that it was a double D burner - it was on sale for cheap. Again, it's the media that they stick you for. The media cost more than double than the singles. Thanks, George
