Hi all,
<Small snip>
So I ordered a new upgrade (AMD Dual-Core 64 3800) for my box. The upgraded computer should be ready for the installation of 10.1 by Tuesday evening.
I have enjoyed SuSE on AMD Athlons since May, 2000 when I bought my first boxed version of SuSE (6.4). I've had many hours of uneventful installs installing SuSE on 32 bit computers since 7.2 (6.4 was anything but effortless). Is there anything about installing SuSE 10.1 on a 64 bit machine I should be aware of, or is the install on a 64 bit machine as easy as installing on a 32 bit machine? Thanks-Tom
I'm happily running 10.1 on this exact hardware: Athlon 64 3800+ dual core (in a cheapo Biostar CRU51-M9 motherboard with integrated nvidia video). No complaints. The installation was no different from that on a 32 bit machine; all my hardware was properly detected and the appropriate modules were selected. The only trouble I've had so far is with my HP 6100 series all-in-one. The printer part works fine but I can't get the either the hpoj or hpaio 64 bit modules to work. No big deal for me as the printer is shared between several computers so I just use another one to scan. Linux is way ahead of Windows when it comes to 64 bit support. -- N. B.
