Hello!
I have an Adaptec Utra160 SCSI card and I wonder if the following problem is solved with the SuSE version of the kernel.

To summarize the issue, when using this kernel, the system totally hangs when loading both new or old version of the aic7xxx module. This forces you to use the manual install on an IDE drive. The only solution found by then to access the SCSI drives was to compile my own kernel.
I wonder if this has been somehow solved since October of last year and if the 8.2 version doesn't have that issue anymore.
I've used several models of Adaptec scsi adapters, including one that does Ultra160. Most of the time it's been problems related to the ACPI code, not the aic7xxx driver. Have you tried the fail safe boot options? have you tried passing the boot option "acpi=oldboot"? -- Rafael
