I tried kmail2 a while back and thought Tools->Search was working but heaps slower than kmail(1) from KDE3 (too slow to be usable).
I continue to use kmail(1) from the OpenSUSE 12.3 kdepim3 package, which seems almost perfect. I was about to test kmail2 from 4.11 in a VM, but given your other post about imap DOS, but it doesn't sound worth the hassle.
Since the word "kmail2"never appears anywhere (the name is deprecated), I can only assume it is kmail2.
The funny thing is kmail works fine. Its the Akonadi back end goes berserk. The bug has been around for quite a while.
It could be that the inability to search is due to the fact that Akonadi never successfully hands off the mail to nepomuk, so there is nothing there to search.
The search routine in Thunderbird works well, but you could also install Recoll, which will index all your files and is reasonably quick. You have to tell it index, however, or make a cron file for it. --doug -- Blessed are the peacemakers...for they shall be shot at from both sides. --A. M.
