I updated my ThinkPad to 15.6 several weeks ago. It went well. However, whenever the software updates runs, it lists kernel default, default extra and default optional version 6.4.0-150600.21.3. When I try to install those, I get an error "Update Error There is no update candidate for ..." However, Yast software management shows 6.4.0-150600.23.7.3 is installed.
Any idea how to clear this? Why it's trying to install old versions?
Do you have knowledge of actual need for any of what kernel-default-extra or kernel-default-optional provide? If you know you don't, they're just space wasters. Remove them, then lock them, to prevent future installation. If you know you do, or do not know, try from Konsole: zypper ref && zypper up This could end the problem that DE updaters do not feature competent resolvers, which produces the error message you're encountering. If you don't know whether you need -optional or -extra, find out. To do so, install a kernel-default alone, without its corresponding -extra or -optional, (or boot a kernel already so installed, by itself) then check if everything you ever do still works. AFAIK, most if not all NVidia graphics users need -extra. My need for optional is due to need for full connectivity with legacy networking (SMB1) and filesystems (HPFS). # zypper info kernel-default-extra | grep mmary Summary : The Standard Kernel - Unsupported kernel modules # zypper info kernel-default-optional | grep mmary Summary : The Standard Kernel - Optional kernel modules -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science.
