I have the Linksys 4 port router, connecting 2 Linux boxes and one Windows box to the net via cable connection. The problem I'm having is getting to the setup menu of the router using a browser interface (Opera, Mozilla, etc.). I have no problem with this in Windoze but can't get it to come up in Linux (http://192.168.1.1/). I tried emailing Linksys for help but received no response. I can't find any solutions on Google responding to this particular problem. Anyone here have a solution? Many thanks in advance.

How is your Linux system configured? What are the values for
- IP address - netmask - default route
I have had a Linksys BEFSR41 4-port router/switch for years, and have a mix of Linux, Windoze and Solaris clients on my net. All are able to access the router. For the *nix clients, I simply
- assign an address on 192.168.1.0/24 (e.g, 192.168.1.21, netmask 255.255.255.0) - set the default route to 192.168.1.1 - set the DNS resolver to point to 192.168.1.1 (unless I opt to run a local named, where I use 127.0.0.1)
And it all just works. For the Windoze machines I use DHCP. Works fine. I do update the firmware on the router religiously, because it has changed quite a bit over the years (added ZoneAlarm, remote management, SNMP, etc).

Ooooookay...if I were in Windows I would pretty much know what you were talking about (well, mostly). However, I'm still very much a newbie when it comes to Linux networking (i.e. what is the "/24"?; setting the default route [where is this done?]; DNS resolver [what is that?], etc.). I guess I need to read the SuSE Admin manual more thoroughly instead of glancing over it. I would like to eventually setup remote admin (from my computer), Samba, etc. Networking has never been my forte; I suppose since I'm going to be doing a LOT more in Linux then I need to change that.
