Hello:
I would like to install nvidia graphics driver manually by running nvidia-install script. This can be done only if x is not running.
I tried to turn off x temporarily in a vt by "init 3" which had no any effect. I also tried to turn off x by:
systemctl stop graphical.target systemctl isolate graphical.target systemctl stop xdm.service systemctl isolate xdm.service
None of the above had any effect on x window, they even haven't restarted x.
I also killed Xorg, but x haven't stayed off, it restarted automatically.
How can I turn off x temporarily? This is openSUSE 12.2 with systemd.
Now I remember that I asked the same almost exactly one year ago. There is no solution for this openSUSE 12.2 'feature', neither init 3 nor systemctl works.
I modify the question:
How can I set the system too boot into console mode instead of graphical one?
Thanks,
Istvan Hi You can set the default via;
systemctl set-default multi-user.target systemctl reboot systemctl set-default graphical.target systemctl reboot -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° LFCS, SUSE Knowledge Partner (Linux Counter #276890) SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 12 GNOME 3.10.1 Kernel 3.12.28-4-default up 7 days 13:22, 5 users, load average: 0.16, 0.23, 0.21 CPU Intel® B840@1.9GHz | GPU Intel® Sandybridge Mobile -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
