My employer has finally heard enough of my bragging about linux and wants to see what it can do. I need to set up an intranet. I am having trouble finding good docs on Apache. Any hints???
www.apache.org
Do I make the intranet server the nameserver?
you can, if you want to...
Do I need a certain daemon running to be a nameserver, or just tell all the boxes that it is?? yeah, sure... if you just need the nameserver for the intranet, I might help you out : I had to do that on our LAN, and I made a shell script that automatically generates DNS (nameserver) and DHCP (dynamic IPs server) configuration files
I installed the apache from the CD's, how do I administer it now?? read a lot of info's :-) It isn't very complicated, but you have to read some docs & faqs first to be able to get the best out of it - and I'm sure there are a lot of people willing to help you with it on this mailinglist (including me :-) You can try this excellent piece of software (free for Linux): www.webmin.com (download "webmin" there) - it's great, and you can administrate almost everything on the box with a browser, from another host on the net - all done with Perl CGI's :-))))) Always a good thing to have Linux in an intranet !!
Can I set up multiple domains served, or do I need a separate IP for each separate domain??
The sooner I can show results, the better. Help!!
I found the docs that came with apache, and I just might have to uninstall the rpm and install the source so I can follow the directions verbatim.
If it comes down to it, I will have to buy Netscape Fasttrack Server. I have used that and it's easy!! *no* need for that - Apache is unbeatable :-)
thanks in advance
